Before a single vote was cast, the election was fixed by GOP and Trump operatives.
Starting in 2013 – just as the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act – a coterie of Trump operatives, under the direction of Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State, created a system to purge 1.1 million Americans of color from the voter rolls of GOP-controlled states.
Trump victory margin in North Carolina: 177,008 North Carolina Crosscheck purge list: 589,393
On Tuesday, we saw Crosscheck elect a Republican Senate and as President, Donald Trump. The electoral putsch was aided by nine other methods of attacking the right to vote of Black, Latino and Asian-American voters, methods detailed in my book and film, including “Caging,” “purging,” blocking legitimate registrations, and wrongly shunting millions to “provisional” ballots that will never be counted.
The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, which was based on our Rolling Stone report (“The GOP’s Stealth War On Voters“), was first released 2 months BEFORE the 2016 election. It predicted Trump would steal the White House – and explained how! The film’s massive success has led to lawsuits in Indiana and Illinois aimed at ending Crosscheck and demands from the NAACP, ACLU, Transformative Justice Coalition for a post-election update. Subtitled, “The Case of the Stolen Election”, the film is available NOW with a tax-deductible donation to support our work.
Trump signaled the use of “Crosscheck” when he claimed the election is “rigged” because “people are voting many, many times.” His operative Kobach, who also advised Trump on building a wall on the southern border, devised …more
While the rest of the press is shocked that white North Carolina vigilantes are using racially-poisonous trickery to knock more than 6,700 Black citizens off the voter rolls, we already have the ringleader of the scheme on camera boasting of his election-snatching tactics.
The NAACP has identified the Voter Integrity Project of Raleigh, North Carolina, as the organization directing the mass mailings to voters in minority communities. When the letters marked “Do Not Forward” were returned to vigilante citizens guided by VIP, the group’s frontmen then challenged the Black citizens’ right to vote. Republican officials then quickly removed these voters from the rolls despite the lack of any evidence that any are fraudulent voters.

If you believe the Republican hysteria machine, there’s an unprecedented election crime wave sweeping America involving a staggering 7.2 million suspected double voters. Thousands of these supposed criminals – who, if found guilty, have committed a felony punishable by 5-years in the slammer – have already lost their right to vote, with 41,000 people in Virginia alone being struck off voter roles. Statistical analysis of the evidence uncovered by investigative reporter Greg Palast shows that one million Americans may lose their vote by November. It also shows that a high proportion of these black, white, and brown voters have one thing in common: they tend to vote blue. In this week’s Best Democracy Money Can Buy: Election Crimes Bulletin, Palast gives Flashpoints’ Dennis J. Bernstein the skinny on this election crime wave, which in reality is little more than a GOP-generated racist sham designed to filter the blue out of the votes at the polls.
TRANSCRIPT (Originally broadcast on Aug 25, 2016)
Dennis J. Bernstein:Greg Palast has got an article that just went up on Rolling Stone. Will an anti-voter fraud program designed by one of Trump’s advisors deny tens of thousands their right to vote in November?
Greg Palast: This week Rolling Stone has a tremendous investigative report, “The GOP’s Secret War Against Voters.” I know about it because I wrote it. This is an investigation I’ve now been on – I say one year in the article, but it’s really been two and a half years – uncovering a system by which the GOP has already removed tens of thousands, probably hundreds of thousands of voters from the voter rolls – and it’s probably going to hit a million by November.
DB:The 21st century version of Jim Crow, the electronic Jim Crow. Talk a little bit about it.
Palast: Here’s the deal: 29 Republican Secretaries of State have given their voter rolls over to …more
Donald Trump is right-the election IS rigged. And it’s his buddies who are rigging it. Rolling Stone has unearthed a confidential list of MILLIONS of voters who are marked to be purged, up to a million at risk by November. Who? Mostly, voters of color, i.e. Democrats.
On Friday, Rolling Stone will release on newsstands, “The GOP’s Secret War on Voters,” a year’s-long investigation by Greg Palast and a team of experts exposing a scheme by 29 Republican state voting officials to remove voters, a program directed by ultra-right Trump operative Kris Kobach Secretary of State of Kansas.
Taking off from Trump’s unsubstantiated claim that “people are voting many, many times,” GOP officials are targeting voters who are allegedly voting or registered in two states and can therefore vote a second time in November. While voting twice is a felony crime, and less than 6 voters have been convicted of this crime, the GOP purge operation is removing tens of thousands of innocent voters as you read this.

Bill O’Reilly from Fox news, and the other foxes in the foxhole, talk about the massive amount of voter fraud in America. Why all these cries of voter fraud? There are about six people in a major election year arrested in the U.S. for committing voter fraud. So why all this hysteria about people voting fraudulently? I call it the hysteria machine.
By saying there are fraudulent voters, they can come up with ways to eliminate the fraudulent voters. If someone is impersonating a dead person (so a dead person walks into a voting booth ?!?), how do you stop the zombies from voting? You require photo ID, which is not so easy. Driver’s license and social security cards don’t work. It’s very difficult. What is the purpose? Do they have non-citizens voting? In Florida, 181,000 people were accused of being illegal alien voters – and only one Republican from Austria was arrested!
It’s not a crime that happens, but it’s a very good crime to accuse people of, without any evidence, and not even arrest anyone. However, as things stand, without any voter fraud conviction, you can still take their vote away. Rosario said: “You have this pre-crime thing. You haven’t done the crime, but we are gong to anticipate it and penalize you for it. We’re going to judge you already and take you off the roster. The idea I grew up with of innocent until proven guilty no longer applies. Now you are guilty until you prove yourself to be innocent.”
And she’s right. For example, out of the 181,000 people in Florida, almost all had Hispanic last names. They were sent letters by the Republican administration, headed by Rick Scott, telling them to appear in court and prove their citizenship before they could vote. How did they get those names? They said they had deported somebody with the last name of Hernandez. So everyone with the last name of Hernandez in Florida must prove that they are a citizen.
This is not a joke. People with the last name Koch don’t have to prove they are citizens. As Rosario says, in effect, they are being accused of committing a felony, of voting illegally, without any evidence at all.
The Ku Klux Klan used to scare away voters of color by wearing white sheets. Now they use spreadsheets. For example, in Florida, Kansas, Alabama, and other states, they are accusing illegal aliens of voting. We’ve previously talked about how in Kansas they are running a program for 30 Republican controlled states called CrossCheck where they are accusing people of voting twice. They’ve arrested two people and accused 7.2 million of voting twice – overwhelmingly voters of color.
They simply run names through computers. For example, in 2000, I uncovered that Katherine Harris had a list of 92,000 names of voters who supposedly were convicted of felonies in Florida so could not vote. If they criminally reregistered, it would send them back to prison. But she removed those people, almost all African-Americans. That elected George Bush as president. They used a computer, knocked off these voters from the voter roles, and in most cases didn’t notify them.
One young man, a Gulf War veteran, came back from the war and took his 5-year old kid to the voting station to show him what Martin Luther King, Jr. has done for African-Americans. But they said he couldn’t vote. “You are a felon,” they said, in front of his kid. He had never even gotten a traffic ticket. That was a shameful racist incident – and that’s how they stole the vote in 2000.
The lesson the GOP learned from the Florida purge was how to imitate that in other states. So the felon purges spread across the nation. They spread to places like Colorado. When the state was under Republican control, they removed 50,000 voters of color as felons – even though it’s not even illegal for a person convicted of a felony to vote in Colorado. In most states it isn’t illegal. In New York, California, you can vote if you have a felony conviction, just not from prison. They learned from Katherine Harris how to do it, and they expanded it.
Who pays for the spreadsheets, the research? Follow the money. Where does this come from? There’s a pamphlet put out by the Heritage Foundation, which is at the center of this hysteria machine. It’s called Does Your Vote Count? It’s typical of what Heritage puts out. Why do we care about Heritage? That’s otherwise known as the Koch Foundation. The Heritage Foundation was founded, funded, and maintained by the billionaire brothers David and Charles Koch. The pamphlet says types of voter fraud are: impersonation fraud at the polls, false registration, duplicate voting, fraudulent use of absentee ballots, buying votes, illegal assistance at the polls, ineligible voting, altering the vote count. This is their list of terrible voter fraud crimes involving millions of people in a massive conspiracy to vote illegally.
Why are the Koch’s so intent to create and build this hysteria machine that will remove voters? They are not very partisan. Most people think of them as Republicans, but they aren’t. David Koch was going to run for governor of Kansas as a Democrat. They’ve been in other parties, such as the Libertarian Party. They are for the Koch party. They are for themselves. They have an agenda. For example, they need the XL pipeline to be completed, because at the end of the pipeline are their refineries, which would get that discounted filthy Canadian oil. They have a money interest in this.
It’s a lot easier to manipulate the vote than convince somebody to change their position. To put it in the simplest, crudest terms, there ain’t enough white guys to elect Donald Trump. So how do you keep a Republican House and Senate, which is their biggest concern, if there aren’t enough white guys who will come out? The answer is you eliminate the non-white guys. You do it through these methods, which couldn’t have happened if we still had the full force of the Voting Rights Act, which was gutted by Supreme Court in 2013. Look out. This will be the first presidential election without the full protection of the Voting Rights Act. I’ve been traveling around the country for Rolling Stone, and it’s the ugliest election I have seen since the 60s.

HuffPo reports that former Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney will endorse Senator Marco Rubio. Why? The answer is: the financier known as The Vulture, Paul Singer-donor Number One to the GOP-and top sugar daddy to the Rubio campaign.
Back in 2012, we broke The Nation cover story exposing how Singer, Mitt Romney’s finance chair, secretly stuffed the “blind trust” of Ann Romney with up to $115 million. For $115 million, a politician will wash your car – with his tongue. So, of course, Mrs. Romney’s husband will endorse the Vulture’s choice. Blind trust=blind endorsement.

They might as well have burned a cross on Dr. King’s grave. The Jim Crow majority on the Supreme Court just took away the vote of millions of Hispanic and African-American voters by wiping away Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
I’m directing the Palast Investigative Team to drop all other work for a round-the-clock investigation of the Theft of 2014 and 2016 elections that the Supreme Court’s ruling sets in motion. Help us, join us.
When I say “millions” of voters of color will lose their ballots, I’m not kidding. Let’s add it up.
Last year, the GOP Secretary of State of Florida Ken Detzner tried to purge 180,000 Americans, mostly Hispanic Democrats, from the voter rolls. He was attempting to break Katherine Harris’ record.
Detzner claimed that all these Brown folk were illegal “aliens.”
But Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act requires that 16 states with a bad history of blocking Black and Brown voters must “pre-clear” with the US Justice Department any messing around with voter rolls or voting rules. And so Section 4 stopped Detzner from the racist Brown-out.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court finally busted the Arizona election law that was supposed to keep “alien” (i.e. Democratic) voters off the voter rolls. Two years ago, we flew to Arizona to bust this bogus game. Here’s the original report …
Several thousand African-American voters in Dayton, Ohio, may find their ballots left uncounted, and they, and America, won’t know it–even if the lost votes change the presidency.
First, you need to know, there are two elections for President in Ohio held on two days and in two colors.
Today, White Ohio will vote: Evangelicals, rurals, small businessmen, big and bigger businessmen, the whole Rotary Club.
Black Ohio already voted. More African-Americans vote early than on the official Election Day.
The big day for African-Americans–and for Barack Obama’s hopes for reelection–was on Sunday, “Souls to the Polls” day, when church buses filled with the ladies of the choir and their men vote as a group. …more
He’s kidding, right? Did I just hear Mitt Romney say, “I would do nothing to hurt the US auto industry”
Here’s the facts, ma’am:
As I reported in this week’s Nation magazine cover story “Mitt Romney’s Bail-out Bonanza“, the Romneys are in a special partnership with the vulture fund that bought Delphi, the former GM auto parts division.
[Watch our Democracy Now! report on the Romney group’s auto plant closures.]
The Romney vulture fund investment syndicate shipped every single UAW production job – EVERY job – to China.
Just after Nation broke the story, Washington newsletter The Hill received the Romneys admission of profiteering:
“Romney’s campaign did not deny that he profited from the auto bailout in an email to The Hill, but it said the the report showed the Detroit intervention was ‘misguided.'”
The truth? On June 1, 2009, the Obama Administration announced …more
Mitt Romney’s opposition to the auto bailout has haunted him on the campaign trail, especially in Rust Belt states like Ohio. There, in September, the Obama campaign launched television ads blasting Romney’s November 2008 New York Times op-ed,“Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.”
Watch Palast talk about this expose on Democracy Now!
But Romney has done a good job of concealing, until now, the fact that he and his wife, Ann, personally gained at least $15.3 million from the bailout – and a few of Romney’s most important Wall Street donors made more than $4 billion. Their gains, and the Romneys’, were astronomical – more than 3,000 percent on their investment. …more
“There is a massive effort underway to register illegal aliens in this country!”
– Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce
The Arizona Republican hunt for “aliens” from Uranus to the Rio Grande has led to the removal of over 200,000 citizens, overwhelmingly Latino, from the state’s voter rolls. There’s more than an even chance that vote “suppression” – the polite word for racist, Jose Crow racial tactics – will result in the Democrats losing an open seat in the U.S. Senate where Democratic Hispanic Richard Carmona is pulling ahead of Republican Jeff Flake.
But I don’t think Carmona wants to win with illegal alien votes. After all, an alien voting has committed a crime– yet no one was arrested. Why? I flew out to Phoenix to investigate”“and ended up in jail. That is, I visited the infamous tent prison of Sheriff Joe Arpaio who has led the alien hunt in his state.
But before I broke into Arpaio’s prison, I called his political ally, Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce, who sponsored one of the nation’s nastiest ID laws, Prop 200. It requires all new voting registrants to prove they are US citizens.
“How many illegal aliens have actually been registered?” I asked.
Pearce’s PR flak told me, five million. All Democrats too. …more
Mitt Romney’s biggest backer didn’t want him to win.
We know that Paul “The Vulture” Singer, Romney’s Daddy Warbucks, organized the “grassroots” campaign to replace Romney with Gov. Chris Christie back in September.
That flopped, so Singer and the billionaire boys’ club that courted Christie moved over to Romney. Not that they had a choice. They knew Moonrocks Gingrich, who thinks he’s running for Master Jedi, and Saint Santorum who thinks he’s running for pope, would end up road kill in November.
But despite their million-dollar checks for Romney’s campaign, the billionaires are handling the ex-governor with very long and slippery tweezers. The fact that Singer and the Koch brothers went on bended knee to Christie means they are just nauseated over Romney, a man losing a war with the English language and his own tax returns, carrying their standard against President Obama. …more
It’s out of the closet — or, more accurately, out of the coven. The list of the billionaires who have given at least $1 million to Restore Our Future, the pro-Romney Super PAC, is headed by Paul Singer. Singer and his hedge fund crew at Elliott Associates, with their donations to the Republican National Committee and other “independent” groups like the Swift Boat campaign, makes it likely that Singer is now the top funder for the GOP.
For BBC-TV, I’ve been tracking Singer for five years. And this is the key fact you need to know about the man whose cash would pick our President: Paul Singer likes to breakfast on decayed carcasses.
The carrion king is known as Singer The Vulture. I didn’t give him the moniker. The name Vulture was tagged on him and his speculator colleagues by the Prime Minister of Britain and the World Bank. Recently, former Deputy Secretary-General of the UN Winston Tubman suggested I ask Singer or his business associates, “Do you know you’re causing babies to die?”
What does this guy do – put poison in kiddies’ milk? Worse: he takes away the milk. …more
How the Election Games are fixed by the Koch gang, Karl Rove and their buck-buddies
Part 1 – THE GAME
In the Beginning
In early 2010, a man named Karl Rove met with a financier known as the Ice Man. The billionaire had more than his share of legal and political troubles. Rove told him he had a plan to defeat Barack Obama and seize control of Congress for the GOP.
The Ice Man said, “I’m in,” and handed over a check for $20 million.
And Ice Man promised more.
“Karl is the best political mind out there,” he said.
Way out there. 2012: Ballots Up the Congo
How I ended up here, up the Congo River, hunting for missing ballots in the US presidential election, well, that’s a story in itself. I’ll get to that.
But first, I have to take you deep into the Heart of Darkness, Washington DC, where, in 2004, this same Karl Rove arranged for his pudgy little poodle to take on a terrible and cruel assignment. The poodle, Tim Griffin, had the small hands, small mind and small heart perfectly suited for the job of re-electing the President, by hook or crook. Mostly crook.
Rove, then Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush, said,
“We are beginning to look like we have elections like those run in countries where the guys in charge are, you know, colonels in mirrored glasses.”
