We subsidize Medical-school tuition to the hilt already and it does not yield the desired result. I know personally a Dr who went to medical school on FULL scholarship. But instead of thanking their lucky stars instead maxed out student loans for personal use. Now they complain ad-nauseum about student loans and their bills and how they can't make ends meet. I don't mention the scholarship for fear of a complete meltdown. I just SHRUG!

I moved from the UK to Australia, and if I were to return, the primary reason would be the National Health Service. Although I was aware of lack of a real health service in the US, (and Australia), Michael Moore's "Sicko" really brought the situation in the States into sharp focus. And Greg, as always, puts the facts in front of his audience. But how to change it? The interested parties have done such a fantastic negative propaganda job, and for so long, that any mention of social enterprise in the states appears to be met with immediate, reflexive, rejection. Perhaps that was one of the objectives of the cold war, to instill in perpetuity a pavlovian response to the term 'social'.

I appreciate your efforts to bring forth more of the truth about insurance companies, however a large portion of truth about health in general has still not reached the mainstream or not so mainstream media that I've seen. Our medical system, which has not kept up with the new science, is based on Newtonian physics which sees the body as a biochemical machine to diagnose and treat. When DNA was discovered about 50 years ago, science thought they had more keys to use to determine what chemicals to use to treat the body. In Dr. Bruce Lipton's book "The Biology of Belief" (the 2006 Science Book of the Year), he radically alters how health and healing should be viewed. He shows how it's your beliefs, perceptions and the environment that control how your cells respond and that genes cannot turn themselves on and off on their own. By being 100% responsible for our own health, dealing with the emotions that get stuck in our bodies and changing our view about how things really work, there are many, many ways to cut health care costs dramatically in this country. Of course this will cause Big Pharma, hospitals and doctors to have a lot less business and make a lot less money since chronic disease is a major profit center. I encourage you to pick up a copy of Dr. Lipton's book. He's being awarded Japan's Goi Peace Award in November. If you're intrigued and would like to learn more about quantum physics and healing, check out the dvd "What the Bleep Do We Know". A new movie just out about healing is "The Living Matrix".

Once again, I really appreciate all the work the you do! Thanks.

This is exactly what should be in this bill. I expect nothing but if there was ever a line in the sand this may be it.

Greg,
You're a great reporter and I enjoy reading your work, but you're absolutely deluded if you think a bill like that would ever pass. The main problem with it, is that it's a very good idea and that's why it'll never even be proposed. I can't recall the last time I read a news article about a law being passed in the US which helped the poor and did not benefit the rich in some way, you're a bit longer in the tooth than me, can you? I've been keeping an eye on the attempt to reform the health care system in the US (I live in the backward commi loving UK) with some interest and am baffled at reaction to it. People seem to be protesting in the streets because this might save them money and help the poor. "How dare they! Burn the socialist bastards"
