RUBBISH -every word. First, the hurricane came ashore in very early hours MONDAY with storm surge ahead of eye.
2. Just off the coast a monster with 167 mph winds that faded to a Cat.3 -over 125 mph and during the night. The described flyover, prior to first levee collapse, would have to happen before 4 A.M. Monday.
3. L.S.U. Hurricane Center's $2M supercomputer predicted EXACTLY the flooding from the storm surge hitting the levee system. Just not the widespread disintegration of earthen levees. The reinforced levees failed from water seeping under them leading to sudden blowouts.
4. Officials persuaded 1 million people to evacuate for damn good reason. Even the Army Corps of Engineers, whioh didn't trust newfangled computer models, no really, knew their pride and joy could not take an Cat. 4 storm.
5. Only true part is after the fact. Unbelievable 24 hours for W. House to realized some levees gone, huge breaches and a hell of a disaster. Monday Michael Chertoff took a nap. Tuesday he kept a H1N1 meeting in Atlanta. Pondered a declaration of "Catastrophic Incident" giving him power to send federal aid on his own. A FEMA idiot actually declined the opportunity for this declaration. Homeland Sec. sucked FEMA dry of money and staff. As simple as that.
United States under Bush run by incompetent idiots; since when did they give a damn about deficits or emergency spending - including all Iraq war spending 2003-2008. Without Katrina on CNN they may have kept the Senate in 2006. Highly recommend the book "Path of Destruction" by McQuaid and Schleifstein 2006.
