Both parties were in bed together on this one. When those flimsy floodwalls were proposed, Mayor "Slimy Sidney" Barthelemy got rid of the experienced engineers of the Sewage & Water Board who SAID that they would never hold. He and the rest of the crooks at city hall WANTED the levees to fail so that they could "collect the insurance" that is the federal "disaster relief" that they knew would flood into the city after "Barthelemy's Flood" destroyed it. Put simply, New Orleans was, to them, worth more DEAD than ALIVE.

A horrifying look at the soul of America.

Establishment media won't report it. Democratic & Republican wings of our one-party government enable it. And We the People are too busy watching reality TV, Fox propaganda, and the mindless gossip-mongering that passes for broadcast news.

I agree that money needs to be taken out of politics, but neither the Green nor any other Party will be the answer unless there is a massive populist uprising fueled by purveyors of truth like Democracy Now & Greg Palast. But...

How do we get there? Please, any ideas? How the hell do we get to where we need to be?

Yet another outrage by the two corporate-funded parties. While the Republicans caused this, THE DEMOCRATS LET IT ALL HAPPEN. There's no evidence the Democrats are doing anything to correct these injustices.

To clean up these messes, we need political parties that aren't on the corporate payroll. The Green Party doesn't accept corporate money and represents CITIZENS' interests -- not corporate interests.

A Green-Party vote also sends a message to the Democrats that continuing to enable the corruption will cost them votes.

There's a word for what the Bush White House and Republicans did to New Orleans: MURDER. And it was premeditated, with malice aforethought.

1) Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld kept U.S. Navy search-and-rescue helicopters from going to New Orleans to save people. One U.S. Navy helicopter, on a resupply mission to a base outside New Orleans, did rescue people, but the pilots were reprimanded upon their return to base. (see David S. Cloud's 9/6/05 NY Times article). One of the reprimanded helicopter pilots stated that while they were flying westward from Pensacola toward New Orleans, they saw a flurry of activity in Alabama and Mississippi in the air and on the ground, but when they passed into Louisiana they virtually had the skies to themselves, with very little evidence of activity on the ground. (Both Alabama and Mississippi had Republican governors).

2) Gov. Kathleen Blanco (D-LA) early last year said that on the day New Orleans flooded, FEMA's command post in Baton Rouge was inundated with phone calls in response to the smear campaign the Bush White House (Karl Rove) and right-wing pundits began against her. During that same post-flooding period, I read a blog post (from a displaced NO Times Picayune reporter?) saying that the FEMA disaster coordinator in Baton Rouge complained in their presence that his federal rescue efforts were being thwarted. Supplies and personnel meant for New Orleans were being stopped or redirected elsewhere. (Alabama? Mississippi?).

It is quite evident, to me at least, that the Bush administration (like everything else) politicized the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, specifically, after New Orleans flooded...and...people...died. If not outright murder, we are talking about voluntary manslaughter by top officials in the Bush administration.
