Richardson is history. wow....now he has to live in the muck he thought he'd leave behind. New Mexico is corrupt, but so is Texas.
love Greg's writing...keep it up, dude.

Geez, when I was a 'kid', in the 1950's , they had a weekly TV program called
"The Big Story." It was sponsored by Pal Mall cigarettes. Each week they
would profile a reporter/journalist that did some investigative work that
"uncovered" corruption and other "foul" actions against the public
interest!

"The Big Story" not only gave recognition, but I believe awarded a cash
prize to each journalist profiled. Since the program no longer exist
and I imagine Mr. Greg would have been profiled many times on "The Big
Story," a personal 'award from some shallow pockets is in order.

Greg, Thanks for another informative article. It was an education for me, having superficially considered Richardson to be one of the "good guys." I know that in politics there are no truly "good guys." One politician that I have admired for years is "Bernie Saunders." What can you tell us about him? I am hoping that he is a good guy but I would really appreciate the benefit of your investigative reporting expertise to help me see a broader picture of Senator Saunders. Since Obama had based his campaign on "change", I thought he would utilize Bernie because, in my knowledge of him, he is a champion of the people.
Thanks

I guess according to the last posting, the ends justifies the means. I am tired of people who do not hold to what is most important. I don't care how much you think "good old boy" Gov. Richardson has done great things for your state, the fact is you are shooting too low. If the man was truly a principled man then he wouldn't had made it virtually impossible for the average citizen to have a recount if there is evidence of possible fraud. By blocking the good people in the state who were willing to put up the necessary funds $114,000 in 2004 and passing a law upping the ante to 1 million, then he obviously is part of what is so putrid smelling in Washington. We can than Governor Richardson for helping to keep Bush in office 4 more years. People who don't like democracies should go live in the Banana Republics, maybe with Bush down in South America where he has his thousands of acres.

At least their cops don't pull you over for no reason other than the make of your vehicle or skin, like in west texas. It's nothing to write home about, but the cops are ok compared.

People who do not reside in this state are unable to understand the unique challenges we face. Governor Richardson is not the crooked marketeer you make him out to be. In the overall scheme of things, he has done great things for this state and has a love for the people of this state for which you are obviously unaware.

I always appreciate what you have to say, but I sincerely wish you could do so without name-calling and juvenile insults. It's such a turn-off that it makes me want to stop listening--I have to force myself to go on. Seriously, more people listen when you can state the facts and your valid opinion without this. I know I probably sound annoying for saying this but it really bothers me. The people who need to hear what you have to say the most are likely to not force themselves to read on after being turned off by the condescending tone...Just sayin. Thank you for listening.

Very interesting article. Just a note, Richarson's father is of nicaraguan descent, so he is hispanic on both sides. His second last name is Lopez and his mother still lives in Mexico city. He speaks spanish like a native and is very knowledgeable and close to many countries in Latin america. I guess that makes him a latino culturally speaking. He didn't used Lopez because, he said, the use of second last names is not customary in the US as it is in Latin America.

I don't trust any vote coming out of NM to be accurate. Between the voting machines (ES&S optical scanners) and the procedure for preparing them (which includes an outside party, Automated Election Services) I have little doubt that the numbers are often fudged in rural counties (--where the task of preparing the memory cards with precinct-specific information is also outsourced to AES.) The whole setup stinks to high hell.
